Biography

Johannes is allegedly the son of Gerrit T. and Anna Jans Van Vechten.

In 1707, he transferred land to his three sons-in-law, Bradt, Breese, and Van Beuren.[1]

Brother-in-law Cornelius Bogardus left his estate to Van Vechten. He says I leave to my loving brother-in-law, Johanes van Vechten, all my estate, real and personal, belonging to me or coming due to me out of the estate of my deceased father, and I make him sole executor. [2]

Derrick Van Vechten (1713-1781) is a son, see sources on that profile

There seems to be a conflation of several individuals in the sources on Derrick's profile. He needs some sorting out and primary sources that identify his parents. He doesn't show up in the church records on the parent's profiles.

Thanks. Apparently he may have never existed as a son of Johannes, created as part of an attempt to connect to Anneke Jans, for an inheritance fraud scheme.

Anna (Unknown) Teller (abt.1695-) is probably the child of this couple. See comments on her profile.

Please add Catharina "Catrina" (VanVechten) Bratt (Van_Vechten-148) as the child of Johannes VanVetchen and Maria Bogardus. Catharina and Bernardus Bratt had the following children: Daniel Bernardus Bratt, Johannes Bratt (died young), Maria Bratt #1 (died young), Maria Bratt #2, Elizabeth Bratt (died age 16), Gerrit Teunisse Bratt and Hendrek Bratt. Their son, Daniel Bernardus Bratt had the following children: Catarina Bratt, Wyntie Bratt, Daniel Bernardus Bratt Jr, Marytje Bratt and Johannes Bratt.
Many genealogies give Johannes' birth date as November 14 1677 in Schagticoke, Rensselaer, NY with parents Gerrit Teunis Van Vechten and Antje Janse (alternate spelling Anna Jans). Does anyone have access to Albany records to confirm this?
